Keyboard Shortcuts

Work faster on your iPad than your laptop with these keyboard shortcuts in Matcha.

We design Matcha not only to let you leave your laptop at home but also to work faster on your iPad than your laptop. We have extensive number of keyboard shortcuts for moving around to editing your document.

You don't need to remember all these shortcuts. When inside Matcha, you can long press the Cmd key to show available keyboard shortcuts for the current screen.

Global Navigation

These shortcuts are available from anywhere when using Matcha.

  • Cmd + Opt + Space

    Activate global search bar

  • Cmd + L

    Open note list and select the first item

  • Cmd + E

    Go to the editor or exit writing mode

  • Cmd + 1

    Go to All Documents

  • Cmd + 2

    Go to Daily Notes

  • Cmd + 3

    Go to To-dos

  • Cmd + 4-9

    Go to x Storage

  • Cmd + N

    Create new document

  • Cmd + Opt + F

    Toggle between full screen editor and split screen editor

  • Cmd + Opt + D

    Toggle between light and dark color scheme

  • Cmd + Opt + C

    Apply next color scheme

In Note List

  • Return

    Open selected item in the editor. Tap return on opened item will move focus to the editor.

  • Tab

    Change focus to the editor

  • Up/Down

    Move to previous / next item

  • Cmd + Up/Down

    Move to first / last item in the list

  • Alt + Up/Down

    Move to previous / next folder in home pane

  • Alt + Left/Right

    Collapse / expand selected folder in home pane

In the Editor (Composing)

You can use these shortcuts when the editor is active and in composing mode, indicated by a blinking triangle cursor on the left edge of the editor.

  • Return

    Start writing

  • Cmd + Return

    Insert a new paragraph, list item or table row at current cursor location

  • Space

    Scroll one page down

  • Ctrl + Up/Down

    Scroll one page up /down

  • Cmd + Up/Down

    Scroll to top or bottom of the document

  • Tab

    Change focus to the note list

In the Editor (Writing)

You can use these shortcuts when inside writing mode, indicated by a blinking typing cursor.

  • Esc or Cmd + E

    Exit writing mode

  • Cmd + L

    Exit writing mode and go to note list

  • Cmd + Opt + Left

    Same as swipe left to create heading or outdent selected block

  • Cmd + Opt + Right

    Same as swipe right to create list or indent selected block

  • Cmd + Opt + Up/Down

    Move selected paragraph, list item or table row up / down

  • Cmd + Z

    Undo

  • Cmd + Shift + Z

    Redo

  • Cmd + X

    Cut

  • Cmd + C

    Copy

  • Cmd + V

    Paste

  • Cmd + A

    Select all

  • Cmd + Shift + A

    Select all text in current paragraph or list item

  • Cmd + B

    Make selected word(s) bold

  • Cmd + I

    Make selected word(s) italic

  • Cmd + U

    Make selected word(s) underline

  • Ctrl + Cmd + H

    Highlight selected word(s)

  • Ctrl + Cmd + K

    Strikethrough selected word(s)

  • Cmd + Up/Down

    Move to top or bottom of the document

  • Ctrl + Up/Down

    Scroll one page up / down

  • Cmd + Left/Right

    Move to begin or end of line

  • Alt + Up/Down

    Move to previous / next block

  • Alt + Left/Right

    Move to previous / next word

  • Tab

    Move to next block

  • Shift + Tab

    Move to previous block
